The Inspirationists purchased the tiny village of Homestead and its surrounding land in 1861, knowing it would be a stop on the proposed rail line. A depot was built and Homestead became the shipping center for the Colonies. The Amana Church in Homestead is still used for special services and is open to tours by the Amana Heritage Society.
