Amana Festival of the Arts
Saturday, August 14th
10 AM – 5 PM
Middle Amana Park in Middle Amana, Iowa.

This special annual event will feature sales of fine arts, crafts and traditional Colony folk arts by local and guest artists. A unique part of the festival will be demonstrations as visitors will enjoy observing woodturning, quilting, tinsmithing, basket-making, spinning and painting.

Guests will also enjoy local foods such as Amana brats, kraut, homemade apple fritters and baked goods along with a special homemade rhubarb drink.

Entertainment for the day will include: Three different performances of the life of Laura Ingles Wilder by Sarah Uthoff and two performances of music by Eric Sandersfeld. 10:00 Press Conference with Laura Engalls Wilder (Sarah Uthoff) 11:00 Music by Eric Sandersfeld 12:00 Children Story Time with Laura Engalls Wilder (Sarah Uthoff) 1:00 Music by Eric Sandersfeld 2:00 Press Conference with Laura Engalls Wilder (Sarah Uthoff) 2:30 Presentation of Friend of the Arts Award 3:00 Music by Eric Sandersfeld. Also a children’s art corner and a quilt raffle for a handmade Amana quilt.

A family event…. no admission fee…… parking $1 per car.

Old World Crafts & Education
The Amana Arts Guild offers a rich diversity of programs and activities providing a wide range of cultural experiences in all area of the arts. Established in 1978 as a non-profit organization, the Guild continues to expand its list of programs and serves as a valuable resource for the Amana community, the state of Iowa, and the entire Midwest region.

Our educational program includes seasonal classes and summer (July) workshops for children and adults. They include but are not limited to: painting, blacksmithing, basketry, tinsmithing, woodworking, rug weaving, and photography.

The Amana Arts Guild encourages efforts of all citizens in the preservation of local cultural heritage. In addition it offers the public a variety of seasonal events including; a Festival of American Basketry, a Festival of the Arts, a Fall Fiber and Clay Art Show, a Communal Meal Celebration as well as Biannual Song and Poetry Festival. Each year the Guild presents a "Friends of the Arts Award" to individuals who have made important contributions towards growth of artistic life in Amana.

The Guild maintains an arts center in High Amana as well as a wagon and blacksmith shop in West Amana.

Woodfest 2010

Searching for woodcrafters of all types, for the new Woodfest event August 27-29 in Amana. For details and applications, click here (pdf).

 

Children’s 2010 Summer  Art Camp
July 26 - July 30

9:00 to 10:30 AM, Fantastic Doodles
A class that includes drawing a variety of animals and other creatures, using simple shapes and ideas. Here students will enjoy using different kinds of art materials. The instructor is Michele Maring-Miller

10:30 to 12:00 AM, Wired Creatures
An enjoyable experience creating a variety of 3 –Dimensional creatures, sculptures, chess pieces, students can use their imagination, anything students can string onto wire will work! The instructor DeAnna Kellenberger         

The classes are open to students who are in 1st thru 8th grade. The cost of each class is $20  If more that one child from a family is enrolled in a class the second child’s fee will be $15.00. A child enrolled in both class can deduct $5: they pay $35 instead of $40
